Megillah, November - December 2004
Men's Club News
And it came to pass, on Saturday evening, November 6, 2004, that Lox 'n Vodka
came to Nevey Shalom for a concert. The scheduling of this group was not easy, but we got them
to gather up their passports and to come to eastern Prince George's County. And, boy, was it
worth the effort!
We sold seventy-one tickets, the best participation since Raffle days. We had an exceptional
concert, featuring a special version of "God Bless America". We had dancing: vigorous dancing
as well as some not-so-vigorous dancing. At the tables during the concert, we had peanuts,
cashews, mixed nuts, pretzels, potato chips, and soft drinks. During the concert, we
gave three door prizes: sets of Lox 'n Vodka's two DCs
("Heavy Shetl" and "Celebrate Shabbat!"). After the concert, we had a variety of fruits,
cookies of many aspects, cheesecake, coffee, and tea.
All in all, we had an especially enjoyable evening. We could not have had this evening if
it had not been for the efforts of Ellen Weiss and George Kessler, and we particularly
want to give a big "Thank You!" to Cindy and Mort Dubinsky for their sponsorship contribution.
Moreover, the success of this program enabled us to commit to a significant expenditure
in support of the office - computer and printer - should replacement of these become
necessary.
And as for the future, mark your calendar and reserve Sunday, June 19, 2005!.
(We know that's Father's Day, so bring your father, already!)
The same folks who wrote "Fiddler on the Roof" also wrote the Tony Award-winning musical
"The Rothschilds". This play tells the story of how the Rothschild family rose from poverty
during the persecution of the 1700's to their position of wealth and influence.
Bernie Dean has redeveloped this play so that he gives a
one-man performance: narrating the story, singing the musical score, and portraying the
main characters in different voices and with different characterizations.
Bernie will be with us, giving us his one-man performance, on Sunday, June 19, 2005.
Also, while we cannot make a firm commitment at this time, we are working with Eyal Bor,
Becky Gordon, and Bruce Castel for a return engagement - possibly in the Spring.
