New Refrigerator

Have you noticed the brand new refrigerator in the synagogue kitchen which was purchased by our Sisterhood? It is sleek and beautiful.

It is so nice not to have to worry about the refrigerator leaking or keeping the proper temperature. Since we have such a lovely refrigerator, let's take care to keep it free from out-of-date items or little bits of leftovers that should have been thrown out weeks ago! Let's keep our new refrigerator looking new.

Remembrance Day Program

On Sunday, April 18th, Rabbi Resnick conducted a Holocaust Remembrance Day service at Nevey Shalom.

First, we were introduced to some of the music that was written at Teretzin by the children who were imprisoned there. We listened to the tunes while we viewed some of the art work also done by the children. These activities were being encouraged in order to make their lives as normal as possible under very stressful circumstances. There were several readings taken from essays that were written at the camp during the war.

Six of our members told us about their relatives who perished in the Holocaust and then each one lit one of the yellow candles in their memory. A total of six candles were lit to remember those we knew and the six million Jewish men, women and children that we will never know. We sang some Yiddish songs to remind us of the rich Jewish life that used to exist in Europe.

It was a very moving program.

Mazel Tov

On Sunday evening, May 2nd, a large group of members of Nevey Shalom Sisterhood gathered at the Pearlstone Center in Reisterstown, Maryland, to join delegates from all around the Seaboard Branch at Retreat 2004. For our Sisterhood, it was a very special occasion, as our own Ziza Pallia was installed as Seaboard Branch President. May she go from strength to strength! Our former Rabbi Paul Kerbel flew in from Marietta, Georgia, to preside at the installation - a very special moment filled with love, warm feelings, and a lifting of the heart. Also there to honor and support Ziza was her whole family and Rabbi Reuven Resnick, his wife, Cantor Shul Resnick, and their boys, Aviv and Yaron. Shula led us in a beautiful Hatikvah.

As always, Ziza looked and spoke with beauty and honesty. All the Nevey Shalom family, past and present, joined in a memorable group photograph.

It was an evening to warm your heart and soul.
