Sisterhood News
Letter from the Co-President
On January 9, 2004, Shaare Tikvah and Nevey Shalom Sisterhoods were together once again
to celebrate Sisterhood Sabbath in honor of the founding of Women's League for Conservative
Judaism.
Back in the year 1917, Mrs. Solomon Schechter gathered a handful of women whose purpose
it was to foster the education of Jewish women in the knowledge of their heritage, to
enable them to raise a family proud to be a member of the Jewish faith. From that small
beginning has grown Women's League - 700 Sisterhoods in synagogues in the United states,
Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Israel, and other parts of the world, with a membership of
150 thousand women. The goals have expanded to include not only the family, but the
greater community and international concerns as well.
We are proud to be affiliated with Women's League, and we are prouder still of the time
and effort of our Sisterhood members who work so hard to raise money for Nevey Shalom
and produce programs to inspire and entertain.
Last year, our Saturday Movie Nights and our Round Table Cooking Classes were very well
received, not to mention our delicious soup sales. We plan to continue these again and
are planning some new and exciting programs for the future. Thank you all for supporting
our programs before and in the coming year.
On behalf of Ellen, Theda, and myself, we warmly welcome you to another year in Nevey
Shalom Sisterhood, and wish you and your family a healthy, happy, and peaceful 2004.

Save the Date
Linda Rosenberg will be presenting a program for Rosh Chodesh Iyar on
Wednesday, April 21, 2004. Linda's programs are always very special, so plan to
join us for an evening of learning, entertainment, and inspiration!
Tasher Koach
We are very proud of all of our Sisterhood women from both Nevey Shalom and
Shaare Tikvah who led the services on Sisterhood Shabbat weekend. The women led
the entire services, both in English and in Hebrew - including the reading of the
Torah!
