Cooking Class
If, when you hear the words "tuna fish", you say "No, not that again!!", it's obvious that you did not
attend Sisterhood's last Round Table Cooking Class.
On Sunday, December 7th, Ziza Pallia was our guest chef and her recipes for tuna fish were far from the
usual. These recipes should only be used when you want to impress your most discriminating guests. The
Tuna Puffs were made with tuna mixed with hard-boiled eggs and olives, wrapped in puff pastry like a
turnover, and baked to a golden brown. They melted in your mouth.
Ziza's Tuna Pie with Bechamel sauce was absolutely sinful, it was so good. The last item was Tuna Patties
fried in olive oil and topped with a delicious tomato sauce. The fun of the cooking class is in learning
a new way of doing something, getting your hand in to help prepare something new, and best of all, joining
the rest of the class at our round tables where we all can schmooze while we taste all of the goodies we have
made. A cup of coffee or tea rounds out the snack, and a delightful time is had by all.
Our next Round Table Cooking Class is scheduled for January 25th, 2004, at 11:30am. Our chef, Sandy Kopta,
will be making a lasagna which does not have any cheese in it. I am told it is really delicious. If you
would care to join the class, reservations will be taken until January 18th. Send your check in the
amount of $5.00 payable to Nevey Shalom Sisterhood, to the synagogue, c/o Theda Rosenblum, 12218 Torah
Lane, Bowie, MD 20716.
Good wishes to you all for a happy healthy New Year.

Sisterhood Correspondence
Our Sisterhood has received a thank-you note from the Sisterhood of Congregation B'nai Tikvah of North Brunswick,
New Jersey. The letter also included a donation in honor of Ellen Novak. Ellen facilitated a leadership development
program for their sisterhood. Her presentation was met with great approval. We're proud of you, Ellen.
Paid-up Membership Dinner
Sisterhood also received an acknowledgement from the Kosher Food Pantry for the donation we made during the
High Holiday Campaign. The campaign helped to put food on the dinner tables and made life a little easier for
families in the greater Baltimore area who are struggling to make ends meet.
The Kosher Food Pantry serves an average of more than 100 families per month. If you would like more
information about this much-needed service, you can reach them at 410-466-9200. They can always use volunteers.
