Megillah, November - December 2003
Thanksgiving
November means Thanksgiving. Here, in the United States, we
have so many things to be thankful for many of which we tend
to take for granted. Thanksgiving brings to mind Norman
Rockwell's picture of a family gathered around a table laden with
food. But more importantly, this holiday represents the basic freedoms we
enjoy in this country: freedom of religion, freedom from want, freedom of
speech and freedom from fear. As we gather together with our loved ones
this Thanksgiving, we need to remember to be thankful that we are able to
observe our religion as we see fit. We should also remember those less
fortunate than we, and contribute to the local food bank, to
S.O.M.E., to the
grocery store's collection, and, of course, remember to donate unused sample
sizes of toiletries to Theda Rosenblum's project. We have so much, that we
should share with others who do not have as much as we do. We wish each
of you a happy, meaningful Thanksgiving.
