Sisterhood News

Cinema Nevey

On March 30, 2003, we went to see the last Cinema Nevey of the season. It was fun to see "The Jolson Story" again after all these years. It was obvious from the smiling faces of everyone who attended this "oldie but goodie" that they enjoyed the show. Refreshments of pies and ice cream were the perfect thing to have while shmoozing with friends.

The suggestion was made that it would be nice to have such an evening at least once every six weeks. Sisterhood would love to do it if we could get a volunteer to take over the arrangements that were so ably performed by Theda Rosenblum up to now. Under her chairmanship, everything went smoothly – the movie was rented, the tables set up, the refreshments purchased, prepared, and served, and a good time was had by all.

Sisterhood Appreciation Day

Sisterhood Appreciation Day will be held on June 1, 2003. The affair promises to be really special. We will start out with a tasty Chinese luncheon which will be served right here at Nevey Shalom. After lunch, we will go to the Bowie Community Playhouse to see "Me and My Girl," a delightful musical comedy.

The fun starts on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Plate money is $7.50 for members, and each member is allowed to bring one guest. The fee for the guest is $25.00, which will cover lunch and the play.

Speaking of appreciation, we appreciate all the hard work that Theda Rosenblum, Sisterhood president in charge of fund-raising, has done. We will all miss her when she makes her move to Leisure World this June and steps down from her position. We hope that she will come back to Nevey Shalom often. We wish her good luck in her move.

A Day at the Jewish Seminary

~Theda Rosenblum

On Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at 6:30 in the morning, fifteen sleepy people will enter a limousine, heading for the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City.

A full day is planned: a walking tour of the campus, a delicious hot lunch, followed by a lecture. Following the lecture, we will be fortunate enough to view the rare book collection. We will have spent a minimum of four hours at the Seminary. On our return trip home, we will make a short stop at Ground Zero. There will be box suppers to enjoy in the limousine on our trip home. Arrival home is expect by about 10:00pm. We are looking forward to an informative and fun day.
