Baffled by a Bowl!

For 26 years, the Shaare Tikvah Men's Club has sponsored the Baffle Bowl, a contest between the Men's Club and the Sisterhood. This year, the 27th, Shaare Tikvah graciously invited Nevey Shalom to share in the event. As usual, Larry Garfinkle, who originated the program years ago, made up the different categories and questions. Some of the categories sounded very easy, but the questions turned out to be very difficult. For instance, questions in the "Disney" category contained references to obscure and little-known facts. The "Supreme Court" category baffled both sides and the audience as well. The one category that we all felt very smug about was the "Nutcracker". Well, for thouse of you who feel as familiar with the music of the Nutcracker as we did, you could probably not answer as many as three out of the ten questions!

The teams were made up of members of both congregations; however, as has happened in the majority of years, the Men's Club won -- but only by two points.

Prior to the Baffle Bowl, we were treated to a delicious dinner, catered by the "Levin Catering Company". There was salad, spaghetti with two kinds of sauce, fresh fruit, ices and cookies for dessert, as well as several types of beverages.

All of us who attended the program agreed that although this was not the first cooperative venture put on by the two congregations, it certainly was one of the most enjoyable and funniest evenings we have had. We look forward to many more such occasions. Many thanks to Larry Garfinkle and Shirley Levin and all the people who helped make this such a successful event.
