Men's Club Concert
About the Program
Sunday, June 8, 2003, 7:30pm
When the Men's Club discontinued its annual raffle because it had become unreliable
as a source of funds and because it had become exceptionally difficult to find suitable
entertainment we did not abandon our interest in providing appropriate programs
when we could find them. And now, we have found one!
On Sunday evening, June 8, 2003, the Men's Club will bring a live concert to Nevey Shalom.
While this program is being produced principally for the Nevey Shalom and Shaare Tikvah
communities and their friends, it certainly is available to others in the community at large.
This ninety-minute concert will feature Dr. Eyal Bor, Becky Gordon, and Bruce Casteel. It
will be comprised of Israeli, Hasidic, folk Liturgical, and Jewish American music. There
will be some Classical hits, and there will be some sing-along with Becky. The concert
will be followed by a dessert reception.
All of this is coming at a very affordable, bargain ticket price, which will be announced
in the near future. With the encouragement and support of a couple of dedicated angels,
we will be able to set the ticket price for this event at a level low enough so that the
cost should not present a barrier to anyone who wants to attend.
Dr. Eyal Bor
Dr. Bor is a fifth-generation Sabra, who performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Symphony,
at Lincoln Center, and at Carnegie Hall. He began his musical studies in Israel at the age
of seven. He was principal clarinetist and soloist with the Israeli Army Band, and his
experience includes the Israel and Jerusalem Philharmonic Orchestras under conductors
Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Gary Bertini. Dr. Bor has a Bachelor of Music degree
from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts degree from the University
of Judaism, and a Ph.D. from Baltimore Hebrew University.
Becky Gordon
Playing guitar and singing in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish, Ms. Gordon has worked as a
Judaic music specialist for more than 25 years. She has, for the past 15 years, been
performer/lecturer for the Baltimore Hebrew University Elder Hostel, and she was one
of 21 performers chosen in a nationwide search to create educational programs for
the Jewish National Fund. Ms. Gordon has been soloist for programs sponsored by
Baltimore Zionist District, Beth Am Congregation, Conservative Rabbinical Council,
National Jewish Educator's Assembly, and Embassy of Israel.
Bruce Casteel
Over the past thirty-three years, Bruce Casteel has had a variety of performing experiences
as a guitarist, including just about every style of guitar there is.
