held in the near future. Many of these activities are sponsored by more than one
group. The Calendar file contains
a briefer form of this information, plus future events beyond the current month.

Sisterhood Appreciation Event
Join Sisterhood on Sunday, June 4, 2006
as we appreciate the efforts of our volunteers with a
yummy lunch followed by a trip to the Whitemarsh Theatre to see 2nd Star Productions'
"How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying". Lunch will begin at
1:00pm, and the theater production will begin at
3:00pm. Reservations are a must by May 9, 2006.
Cost is $18 for Sisterhood members and $25 for non-members. RSVP with your check to

Sisterhood Goes to DC
Nevey Shalom Sisterhood is heading to Washington, DC, on Sunday, April 23, 2006
to:
- see the guided exhibit, "Jewish Washington: Scrapbook of an American Community" at the National Building Museum;
- hear a mini-lecture on the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington form Peggy Pearlstein at the Museum's cafe, where you can purchase refreshments;
- participate in a walking tour to see the two nearby synagogues featured in the exhibit (original and second Adas Israel synagogues).
Sisterhood members and spouses can attend. Meet at Nevey Shalom at 11:00am.
We will have carpools to Metro. RSVP the synagogue office (301-262-9020) by

The Robyn Helzner Trio
The Men's Club of Nevey Shalom presents The Robyn Helzner Trio, in concert at Nevey Shalom
on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at 7:00pm. The concert will be followed
by a sumptuous dessert buffet. Cost: $18 per person (advance reservation) or $24 per person
(at the door). Send payment by check made out to The Men's Club of Nevey Shalom to the
synagogue at 12218 Torah Lane, Bowie, MD 20715-3157. The concert is open to the public.
Through song, story, humor, and lively audience participation, the acclaimed Robyn Helzner Trio
brings the rich Jewish musical experience to life. The Trio's sophisticated harmonies and
signature song arrangements enliven the exuberant melodies of modern Israel, the folk songs
of Eastern Europe, the love songs of Spain, and the eclectic compositions of contemporary
America. The trio has performed across the United States and around the world.
Robyn Helzner is one of today's leading interpreters of world Jewish music. Throughout North
America, and in Hong Kong, Bejing, Tokyo, Moscow, and St. Petersburg, Robyn has inspired
Jewish audiences to identify with their cultural roots and enabled non-Jewish listeners to
appreciate a vital part of Jewish culture. Robyn is joined by Cantor Mark Novak, who
sang for the UJA Night of Stars at Madison Square Garden. Also joining Robyn is Dov Weitman,
an expert on mandolin, guitar, and recorder, who is a master of musical styles ranging from
Israeli folk and bluegras to klezmer and traditional Spanish dance.

Women's Seder, Thursday, March 30, 2006, at 7:30pm.

Women's League Torah Fund Brunch
Join Women's League Seaboard Branch for their area-wide Torah Fund Brunch on
March 26, 2006, at 11:30am at Har Shalom, 11510 Falls Road,
Potomac, MD. The special guest speaker will be Rabbi Daniella Kolodny, Chaplain at the
National Naval Medical Center and the only female rabbi in the Navy. Rabbi Kolodny was
ordained at JTS in 2004. The program will also feature a musical presentation by
Hazzan Henrique Ozur-Bass.

Sisterhood Cooking Workshop
Join Sisterhood on Thursday, February 23, 2006, at 7:30pm
for a cooking workshop featuring Chef Sandy. We will be making Eggplant Scallopini and,
of course, we will then enjoy our achievements. Cost: $5 per person.

Sisterhood Shabbat: Dinner, Services, and Programs
It is with great pleasure that we cordially invite you to attend Nevey Shalom and
Shaare Tikvah Sisterhoods' annual Family Shabbat Dinner, to be held on
Friday, January 20, 2006, at 6:00pm. Sisterhood will be
leading the Shabbat services afterwards and also on Saturday morning at 9:30am. Please
join us to honor Women's League Sisterhood Shabbat. Reservations are a MUST by
January 10, 2006. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children aged
11 and under. Reservations will be accepted by check only and must be received by
January 10th. We will be unable to honor any reservations after that date. No one will be
admitted at the door without a reservation.
Make check payable to Nevey Shalom Sisterhood and mail or bring to the office with your
reservation information, which should include your name, your phone number, and

Movie and Discussion: Liberty Heights
Join the Nevey Shalom Sisterhood at Nevey Shalom on
Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. for a showing of
LIBERTY HEIGHTS. From the acclaimed directors of Avalon,
Donnie Brasco, and Diner, Baltimore-born and raised Barry Levinson.
The film is about "anti-Semitism, race relations, coming of age, and fathers and sons, in Baltimore from Fall 1954 to Fall 1955".
Light refreshments will be served during
and after the show. Cost is $5.00 per person. RSVP to Ellen Weiss.
Shabbat Dinner & Student Service
There will be a Shabbat dinner on Friday, December 9, 2005,
before the student service, at 5:45 p.m.
Both Shaare Tikvah and Nevey Shalom members/friends are invited.
The menu is roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad & applesauce.
The cost is $8.00 for kids and $16.00 for adults, with a max of $40.00 per family.
RSVP to Carol Halikman by Thursday, December 8, 2005.
Rabbi Joshua Ginsberg will conduct services both Friday evening (12/9)
and Saturday morning (12/10). Standard service times will be in effect:
8:00 PM Friday and 9:30 AM Saturday.
As noted above the Friday evening service is a regularly scheduled student service.

"The Significance of Jerusalem"
The Nevey Shalom Program Committee presents Dr. Raphael Jospe, who will lecture
on "The Significance of Jerusalem", at Nevey Shalom on
Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at 7:30pm. Professor
Raphael Jospe serves on the faculties of Bar Ilan University, the Hebrew University,
and the Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies of Brigham Young University. He
has lectured on Jewish-Christian-Morman and Islamic relations at conferences of the
Vatican and various theological seminaries. Professor Jospe is the author of over
90 scholarly articles and 9 books, including a 3-volume work on Jewish Philosophy in
the Middle Ages. Professor Jospe is 2005 Scholar-in-Residence at Temple Beth Ami,
Agudas Achim Congregation, B'nai Israel Congregation, Adas Israel Congregation, and
others.
This program is under the auspices of The Foundation for Jewish Studies.
Sisterhood Meeting and Beaded Jewelry Workshop
Learn to make beaded jewelry at our Sisterhood Meeting,
November 9, 2005, at 7:30pm. The meeting and
workshop will take place at "The Beader's Workshop", 6786 Race Track Road,
Bowie, MD 20715, in the back of the Hilltop Plaza shopping center. Park in the
back; the shop is on the right-hand corner across from T.J. Maxx. There will
be a demonstration by owner Vivian Pollard. Refreshments will be served after
the demo. Jewelry will be available for purchase. Please RSVP the synagogue
office, 301-262-9020, by Sunday, November 6, 2005, so that Vivian can plan for the number of
women attending.
October
Sisterhood Paid-Up Membership Luncheon and Program
Nevey Shalom Sisterhood invites you to our annual Paid-Up Membership Event,
Sunday, October 23, 2005, at 12:45pm. The program
will feature HaMotzi in the Sukkah, a lovely luncheon in the shul, and entertainment
by the Arundelaires Chorus Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Your $36 dues can be sent
to Rita Dahut or dropped off at the synagogue. RSVP to the synagogue office,

Open Forum for Candidates for Bowie City Council
On Thursday, October 20, 2005, at 7:00pm at Nevey Shalom,
there will be an open forum for candidates for Bowie City Council. This will be the
only candidate forum in which candidates for all City Council seats will participate.
There will be ample opportunity for questions from the floor. Refreshments will be
served.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2005.
The open forum is sponsored by Nevey Shalom, Bowie Blade-News,
and the Governor Oden Bowie Democratic Club.
September
Social, Concert, and Selichot Service
Mark your calendar for Selichot services on
Saturday, September 24, 2005 as we begin the
serious approach to the High Holy Days season. There will an
unstructured social period beginning at 10:00 pm, followed at
10:30 pm by a concert (of music appropriate to the Season) by Eyal Bor,
Becky Gordon and Bruce Casteel. Selichot services will begin at 11:00 pm.
The concert, sponsored by the Men's Club of Nevey Shalom,
is without cost to attendees.
